  • 2015 Season

Well, I've been in the booth for 6 games already. The season is upon us. Last weekend were tournaments. Same this coming weekend. A few games this week before the tourneys. Next week the "real" season starts.

At the Brownsville Tournament a semifinal game between Brownsville Lopez and Brownsville Porter came down to the 9th penalty kick to declare a winner.
The game ended with Porter defeating Lopez 3 to 2 (pk's 9 to 8)

Porter advances to the final where they will face a talented and experienced Rivera Raiders team. The Raiders defeated in the other semifinal La Joya Palmview 6 to 2 to claim their spot at the championship game. RGV Soccer On The Rise!

Finding out results from tournaments that teams from the Valley play in are ridiculously hard. Even RGVFUTBOL.com can't get the results. It would be nice to know how the Valley stacks up with teams from around the State. We all know another State championship team is coming out of the Valley!

Yeah someone in the RGV is making a run at a state title this year again. I had the opportunity to watch the battle of south most ( Porter v. Lopez). The teams were flying all over the field with quickness, speed and above all skill. It was a high octane game for sure. For those who have never seen high school boys soccer before, I recommend watching the Brownsville teams play one another. If not Brownsville teams lucky for us we have elite boys teams scattered throughout the RGV.

Anyone with game scores register and post them up.

Lots of good boys teams in the Valley this year. I am pleasantly surprised with the Cougars. They haven't been known as a top team, but they seem to be playing well this year.

You know it is sad that the Valley while having lots of passionate soccer fans doesn't get much media coverage of our high school soccer teams. I say this as the parent of a girls high school soccer player. High school girl's soccer in the Valley gets almost no coverage. Local media covers high school football and basketball in the Valley which are two sports that we aren't even competitive in statewide. But we have some really good boy's soccer teams and a couple of good girl's soccer teams that can actually compete statewide with other Texas teams, but we almost never hear about them. We get preseason, nondistrict coverage of all of our football teams, every game during the season, and playoff coverage when our football teams never get past the third round, but we never see that amount of coverage for our soccer teams that have advanced farther, more recently than any of our football teams.

Yes it is sad. Soccer has been the only sport that has brought the Valley state championships lately. You would think each year there'd be interest in seeing if another Valley team makes it to State or which team will do it.

Sadly it seems the same apathy for HS soccer exists here in San Antonio. You see very few fans in the stands or news coverage.

The split in Sharyland didn't affect soccer too much this year - both schools are in the playoffs (boys and girls). Sharyland won district in boys and girls and Pioneer is 2nd (girls), 3rd (boys).

How's the weather been down there? I haven't been to any games either because it's raining/drizzle or work. I've been wanting to go see Clark play, to see if they are worthy of their ranking.

I was down in Brownsville this past weekend and I wanted to go to the Hanna/Rivera game but I couldn't find out where it was at. By the time I found out it was at the Sports Park, it was already at the half. It was a nice day for a game.

BTW, the Region IV 6A tournament is in Brownsville this year.

The weather this season has been either cold or wet or both. This has not been the usual soccer weather this year for down here.

Well that sucks. You'd think they'd be more careful with those things. Just saw on the other sports website that caters to upper valley soccer exclusively (Must not have funds to travel to lower valley.) that Porter has 2 losses now and is 2nd in district.

But it gets better; Donna North had to forfeit all of it's games and is out of the playoffs. Donna is now in.

                              Thanks for the heads up.
